Planning to move abroad solo? Or even with family? This prep checklist will help you stay organised and confident.

Living abroad is one of the best things you can ever do and so you want to do it right. Learning how to prepare for moving abroad is the first thing you should do – after actually deciding you want to move!

Living abroad means you get the chance to experience new and exciting cultures, get out of your comfort zone and live a completely different way of life.

It could be that you’re going travelling solo and visiting a number of different places, or perhaps you’re going with your partner or family to try pastures new.

No matter the reason or circumstances, when you are living abroad you want to make sure you’re as prepared as possible.

Keep on reading for some of my top tips to ensure you get the most out of your trip as you can.

Plan a realistic budget that you’ll need

The first thing you need to do when you start to prepare for living abroad is to plan a realistic budget.

You need to consider how much your accommodation will be, your transportation to get around – whether you’ll rent a car or be using public transport – and how much you’re roughly going to need for living costs.

While you can’t predict it exactly, it’s better to over-budget and make sure you have enough than run out of cash far away from home.

Ensure your healthcare is sorted before you go

When you’re far away from home you want to make sure you’re in the best possible health.

Get all your appointments sorted such as your dental visits, Pap smear and sight and hearing tests so you know you’re healthy before you travel.

Why not look into a private health assessment that can screen for a range of diseases and conditions? After all, they do say prevention is better than cure and this can mean you’re not caught unaware for a number of conditions.

Decide how you’re going to bring money in when you’re out there

It could be that you’re moving abroad because you’ve got a new job, in which case you know how you will be sustaining your lifestyle.

If not, you need to figure out what you’ll do for money when you’re out there. Perhaps you’ve got enough savings behind you that you don’t need to worry, or maybe you’re planning on getting a part time job.

Either way, you will need to ensure you have your financial situation all set up and ready to go!

Think about if you’re going to stay in one place or travel around

There are benefits and drawback to both staying in one place and travelling around when living abroad.

Look up both options and think about what will be best for the lifestyle you’re wanting to live, the money you have and the stability you’re looking to have when you’re away.

These are just a few things you need to keep in mind when you start to prepare for living abroad.

Living in another country is one of the best things you’ll ever do but you want to be ready to get the most from it.
